Lagos, Nigeria

Places to stay

It is difficult to find affordable short-term housing in Lagos. Nigerians sometimes rent spare bedrooms to expats, but there is no systematic way of identifying these people.

Cumberland Hotel
At intersection of Adeola Odeku and Ahmadu Bello
Victoria Island
About $105/night. This includes breakfast and very fast internet.
This is extraordinarily cheap for Victoria Island. There are cheaper places on the mainland, but if you want to stay on VI this is your best bet.

Drivers

Wole (0)803 4465 830
(0)70 536 50853
4,000N for the first 3 hours, 1,000N for each additional hour. 15,000N for a day trip outside of Lagos.
Wole is very reliable, and always arrives early. He is based at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, which is close to the airport.

Toba (0)70 609 760 11
5,000N for the first 3 hours. 1,000N for each additional hour.

Internet

I think MTN is the best, though others disagree.
Dongles cost 5,000N. You buy the dongle at an MTN store, and you can fill them up with recharge cards on the street. 1 month/5GB = 8,000 N. 1 day is 500 N.

How much for a taxi from the airport to Lagos Island?

If there’s no traffic, the “real” price is 2,000 N. The lowest I have gotten airport taxis down to is 3,000 N. Their standard price is 5,000 N.

Gyms

HSF Wellness Center
Raymond Njoku Street, off Awolowo Ave. Close to Falomo Shopping Center. Ikoyi.
1,500 N for one work out. There are monthly memberships as well.

The official rate is 40,000N/month, but some people are able to get it down to 20,000N/month.
