Okada (motorbike) use was recently restricted in Lagos. I was asking a policewoman for directions today, and after she helped me, she said, “Please, tell me, what do you think about the okada ban?” I paused, trying to think about what I did think about the ban, and then once I had formed an opinion, tried to imagine what her opinion was, and then next how to convey my opinion palatably. Just as I had finished this in my head, she said: “As for me, I do not like it. People are struggling too much for transport now. It should be like in your country, where the okada are permitted, and have their own lane.”
