Yay democracy

Back in January Johnny Dwyer encouraged me to file a Freedom of Information Act request for information related to my possible dissertation topic.  It was extremely easy.  There are templates online you can use to write your requests, and I was able to submit my requests online.  Six months later, the State Department sent me a thick envelope with lots of cables declassified on my request.  Very cool.

Below is an excerpt from one of the cables from the American Consulate in Lagos–very much unrelated to my dissertation.  I can’t imagine what they whited out.
