It’s a Lyonnaise sausage

French phrases I’m learning from BBC’s fantastic learn French site that won’t be so useful in Abidjan:

C’est un saucisson lyonnais avec des pistaches,
servi avec des lentilles.

It’s a Lyonnaise sausage with pistachio nuts,
served with lentils.

Voici la salle de bains. Vous avez l’eau chaude toute
la journée.

Here is the bathroom. You’ve got hot water all day.

Le train part de quelle voie ?
What platform does the train leave from?

Pardon, mais le théâtre romain, c’est loin ?
Excuse me, but the roman theatre, is it far?

Love it! This reminds me of fieldwork. There was more than once when I thought about the fact that having learned how to ask for directions to the customs bureau or to comment on a wine was FAR less useful than things like “Excuse me, but you must let me out of detention now” would have been. Bonne chance!
