Apologies for being off-line longer than anticipated. What’s been going on since I’ve been gone?
- A former member of Charles Taylor’s defense team is now a Khmer Rouge tribunal prosecutor.
- Taylor admitted he received money from Taiwan and Libya for his 1996/1997 presidential campaign.
- AFP quotes Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo justifying the election delay: “Abroad people are saying ‘hold elections!’, but we are recovering from a war, so we want to hold elections that don’t lead to another outbreak of war,” said Gbagbo.
- I got a visa to go to Cote d’Ivoire! I’ll be there from the end of December through January. Any contacts would be much appreciated. I know virtually no one there, and would prefer not to spend evenings alone in my guest house!
