Charles Taylor spent Thursday attempting to dispel the idea that Sam Bockarie (aka Mosquito) took orders from him. Here’s a comical excerpt, where Taylor tried to play down the importance of Bockarie calling him chief. I get the point Taylor’s trying to make (the word chief can be used for fake respect if you are trying to get something from someone), but the fact that he was president seems to work against the logic:
“Chief has nothing to do with direct control, it is just a title,” he said. He explained that several other people referred to him as “chief” because of his position as President of Liberia.
