Charlie is like a broken clock

To the best of my knowledge, local and international news outlets haven’t been calling Charles Taylor out on statements he make that fly in the face of reasonably well-established facts.  But commenters on the Trial of Charles Taylor blog have been.

This is one of my favorite comments from a reader, made after pointing to what seems to be  a contradictory statement Taylor made on Monday:

Gentlmen, I told you charlie is like a broken clock that never tells the correct time of the day!

    Dear Moderator,

The reason that “local, international news outlets haven’t been calling Charles Taylor out on statements he make that fly in the face of reasonably well-established facts” is simple.

The vast majority of the case is based on hearsay with multiple contradictory statements from prosecution witnesses. Regardless of our personal biases against Taylor, even you must agree, this case as it is can’t pass a muster test in any western court.

Second, by now it should be abundantly clear for even Steven Wonder to see throw the circus this case has become. Do I believe Taylor should be on trial? Absolutely in the case of Liberia, I know for certain he’s 100% guilty. As for Sierra Leone; absolutely not.

So in summary to a long winded response to your comment, the reason folks have lost interest in this case is no one truly believes this case is truly about justice.
