The Liberian civil war frequently was fueled by foreigners. Two examples: foreigners who extracted natural resources and gave big kickbacks to Charles Taylor in the form of money and/or weapons, and leaders of neighboring and non-neighboring foreign countries who supported Taylor’s guys or opposing factions. This is not a controversial idea.
Thus this excerpt from Taylor’s testimony on September 10 at his trial is especially ludicrous:
If there had been any Caucasian, I want to tell you, during that particular period [1991-1992], or any other period involved in the Liberian civil war or with me, it would have been published very clearly. There was no such thing, Lebanese or even any other caucasian involved. There [sic] was purely a Liberian war.
And yet the role of foreigners was published very widely and “very clearly.” Taylor does this a lot. He will say “if that had been the case, then this would have happened.” And often “this” did happen. Taylor is getting away with this because he is testifying for such a long period of time before being cross-examined.
It is indeed a pity to notice that dissenting comments are now in the name of moderation not allowed on your blog spot . ONE who is ready to air views should be ready to defend them. Simple . Once again, give us one or two instances of the foreign coverage of the Caucasian , Lebanese and Israeli intervention in the Liberian war . Also, give one 1991/92 instance.
Shelby,
You must admit that Taylor’s Defense team is providing far more documentary evidence then the Prosecution ever did.
Shelby
Where are your facts? But if we can use such rational that foriegners should be held responsible for Liberia’s problem then should such logic also hold you accountable? I asked without any prejudice but you will also agree that you are influencing political decision making process in Liberia. So why are you involve and not leaving the Liberian people to decide for themselves?
Just an inquiring mind….
