New Minister of Justice

Christiana Tah. Picture from here.

There’s a new Liberian Minister of Justice–her name is Christiana Tah. She has replaced Philip Banks. Tah is coming from Montogomery College in Maryland where she was teaching in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice. Tah worked under Tolbert in the 1970s, making her yet another Liberian government official who worked under Americo-Liberian rule and then spent years in the US. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but worth mentioning.

Christiana Tah is a patriotic and hardworking Liberian. She is the brain child behind the Temporary Protective Status for Liberians in the United States. During her time in the U.S. her focus was resolving the conflict in Liberia and fostering peace among Liberians in the Diaspora and at home.

She is one of the unsung heroes of the recently organized International Women Colloquium in Liberia. She has also been working behind the scene for the several years editing the Liberian Law Review for subsequent publication.

During her tenure at Morgan State University and Montgmery college, Chritiana used her vacation time to work as a volunteer in Monrovia,Liberia. She provided legal services free of charge to people that are indigent.

Liberia needs all her citizens to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. It is not relevant as to who they served. Once they have the integrity, expertise, ethic and morality, they should be welcome.

The exception will be those that are convicted of crimes and others that are known to have committed heinous act.
