"Be for real real"

The debate on the forum of the Trial of Charles Taylor blog has been just like the debates on most on-line forums. There are a few characters who dominate the conversation. Some support Taylor, despite any evidence to the contrary, and others are convinced of Taylor’s guilt, despite any evidence to the contrary. The posts usually involve people from each side trying to show the others how a certain witness’s testimony supports their position.

But I was just looking through the posts, and came across something interesting:

Steve, on this site, we RESPECT all views so we will give yours the stage but STOP and be for REAL REAL…tell us ONE WITNESS that pointed to Mr. Taylor FACTUALLY as the person who did the RAPINGS, KILLINGS and STEALINGS in Sierra Leone. I am NOT asking for HEARSAYS please. Do you know that the LAST WITNESS on the stand for the prosecutors told this court that the ones that chopped of his arms were SOLDIERS of the SIERRA LEONE ARMY?? Yes he was asked if his arms were chopped of by RUF and he said “NO”…….I rest my case!!!!
What I find interesting: The poster does not understand that Taylor is being tried for command responsibility. He/she thinks Taylor is being tried for actually raping and killing people. This reflects the challenge the Special Court has had communicating its work to the public–even the people who are engaged with the trial.

And I may just start incorporating the phrase “be for real real” into conversations.
