Churches, Liberians, and Minnesota

Rev. Francis Tabla, second from left, at a celebration marking Ebenezer Community Church’s 8th anniversary in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Tabla is from Maryland County in Liberia. He came to the US in 1997 for school, and soon after started Ebenezer Community Church. Tabla says that Minnesota was hospitable to Liberians during the course of the war. “Many Liberians have moved from other states [to Minnesota] because of the sense of community here,” Tabla said, adding that “you can find all African foods here.”

A ritzy part of Brooklyn Park, home to a large Liberian community.

I have a story in this month’s Minnesota Christian Chronicle about the role that churches play in the lives of Liberians in Minnesota. The article is online, here.
