The trial of Chuckie Taylor, son of former Liberian president Charles Taylor, is set to begin this week at a court in Miami. Chuckie (Chucky?) is being tried under a 1994 law that allows the US to prosecute people who commit torture in or outside of the US, even if they are not US citizens.
Chuckie is a US citizen. He was born near Boston and grew up outside of Orlando. He moved to Liberia when his father was president to head the feared Anti-Terrorist Unit, a group that killed, tortured, and intimidated his father’s opponents.
Rolling Stone recently had an article about Chuckie. The second page of the article posts an audio clip of Chucky performing a song called “Angel.” The Rolling Stone article calls the song “’80s electro-soul love rap.”
