BET founder Bob Johnson. Picture from here.
Bob Johnson was on NPR today talking about the beach resort he is building in Liberia. It’s set to open in March 2009. It was yet another soft story on Liberia, offering no information that you couldn’t find with a quick Google search. The interviewer only started posing tough questions when the topic changed to the US presidential election.
Johnson said two things I liked:
- Responding to a question about the security situation in Liberia, he said everyday Monrovia and the countryside are getting more secure before he talked about security precautions that will be implemented at the resort.
- He called President Sirleaf a tough negotiator for her country.
Shelby, obviously Mr. Johnson doesn’t live in Monrovia. Even if he did live here, he would be in a compound w/guards, not living in a normal dwelling in Barnersville or Paynesville. Take a look at the trumped up charges Mr. Robert Ferguson, of Acelor Mittal Steel was arrested for last Friday. All because he complained about the challenges of dealing w/local officials who want bribes. What about the rate of armed robbery and increase in thefts? What about the UN SG recent statements on the tenuous security environment. Brother, please.
What are the triumphed up charges? How do you know the charges against Mr. Ferguson are triumped up?
please allow me to make a correction to my earlier post in which I responded to “lonestar”. A typo was made in spelling the word “trumped”. Please accept this correction.
All Robert said was that Arcelor Mittal was having trouble getting started because they refused to take the bribes from the government. For that, he spent several days in jail, forced to sit in a pile of human feces. The charges (whatever they may be, I have no clue) have yet to be dropped.
