Liberia again improved its ranking in the recently-released 2008 Failed States Index. Liberia is number 34 on the list, with number 1 being the least stable. (Or most failed, as I initially typed, before realizing that was grammatically awkward and offensive.)
Liberia’s personal best scores were in the “human rights” and “group grievance” categories. Its personal worst scores were in “external intervention” (because of the UN peacekeeping presence) and “public services.”
