A friend once suggested that the only thing Gyude Bryant did well during his brief tenure as chairman of the transitional government was help make the 2005 elections free and fair. Liberia got a technocrat who happily left the Executive Mansion in January 2006–certainly a good thing–but only after he managed to capitalize on every ounce of power the position afforded him during his 27 months in office.
This AFP article says that a new charge recently was added to the many pending cases against Bryant: stealing $958,000 from the Liberian national oil company between 2004 and 2006.
