Sirleaf’s Annual Address

Thanks to Siafa for sending me a link to the text of President Sirleaf’s annual address to the legislature and noting that all of the president’s speeches can be found on the Executive Mansion’s website, here. Apparently the annual address does not mention the constitutional provision on citizeship. I haven’t had time to read the whole 37-page address, but from some skimming she seems to be highlighting progress (more doctors, more access to clean water, better sewage systems) while stressing that needs remain great.

Sirleaf says: “Today we have 122 doctors serving throughout the country of which 51 are Liberians…This implies…just one doctor for every 28,000 Liberians.”

The last sentence (just before “I thank you!”) of this long address doesn’t quite seem to fit: “Please join me also in preparing to welcome to our country in three weeks and for the first time
in twenty years, a United States President, Mr. and Mrs. George Bush.”
