Yesterday the AP had a confusing article about African military leaders’ reactions to AFRICOM. The main complaint from the military leaders, according to the article, is that African heads of states have not been sufficiently briefed about AFRICOM. Is that really the main complaint? A high-ranking military official with a senior post at ECOWAS is quoted saying that “Everybody welcomes and supports the idea, but we want that direction to come from the heads of state.” I don’t think that’s true.
