The Difference Between Living in Monrovia and Brooklyn, Round 1

1. My apartment in Brooklyn is walking distance from a 24-hour natural food store that sells fresh tofu salads and always has a wide variety of produce.

My apartment in Monrovia was walking distance from Abi Jaoudi, a supermarket that occasionally sold over-priced boxed tofu and had a wide variety of produce two or three days a month, when a shipment from Europe arrived.

2. My aparment in Brooklyn is $900/month. Not furnished. About 1/4 the size of my Monrovia apartment. Utilities not included. To get the apartment I had to provide my bank statement, social security number, and my roomate had to submit to a credit check.

My apartment in Monrovia was $500/month. All utilities included. It was fully furnsihed. I found roomates by posting an ad on my blog and accepted roomates by email, sometimes without having met them.

This was the living room in my neo-colonial Monrovia apartment. Everything in this picture was included with rent. Including the little turtle on the coffee table.

The apartment in Brooklyn gives you easy access to:
    1 The New York Times
    2 Fortunatas for dessert pastries
3 A wealth of cultural and educational resources
    4 Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, etc.
    5 family

When i got to london and discovered that my parents paid £900/month for their two-bedroomed home, i was shocked cos the same amount could probably get you a duplex with about 7 huge bedrooms, a drive-in, a garage, enough to furnish the house to taste. It’s one of those things good abt living in the third-world country. In any country, anyways, there are pros & cons. Ur home looks nice though.
