Tow Trucks!!
Will I still have things to blog about? This was the thought that crossed my mind while in the US. Then I got on the plane to Brussels.
As I sat down in my front row aisle seat (ahhh, the leg room) my neighbor looked at me: “Are you going to Brussels or Liberia?” I found this an odd question, as I’m sure that 98% of the people on the flight were not going to Liberia. I told him I was going to Liberia. He pulled out his Liberian government ID card and told me his position. He is in a very high position of power, and during out lovely 6 hour flight across the Atlantic he proved that power does not make one immune from inappropriately hitting on women strapped down next to you. He was also in his 50s. That was fun.
I did manage to get some interesting information from him, though. President Sirleaf usually works till past midnight. This is probably nothing new for those of you who live in Sinkor and hear her convoy, but for us Mamba Point bubble people, we’re not privy to her daily schedule. “I’m never working for a woman again,” my high-ranking government official neighbor said, “They work you too hard.”
At the Brussels airport I met a fellow blogger. Nice meeting you Joy!
Today I was with my driver Tom. We were heading down Randall Street. We passed a shiny new police pick-up truck (donated by the Swedes, I hear?). In the 24 hours that I have been back I have seen three. Tom started laughing.
“What?” I asked.
“The police just started this campaign to crack down on double parking, and this police truck is double parked. Two cars are trapped in because of him.” Tom was right. We both laughed. Then, literally 20 yards down the road, we saw a huge crowd of people in front of Stop and Shop.
They were watching as an equally shiny and new ocean blue tow truck pulled a white sedan up onto its ramp. The woman was double parked, I guess, and for some reason she was still in the car while it was being elevated. Tom started explaining to me what a tow truck was. I think this is the first tow truck Liberia has had in a while. At least sixty people just stared as this machine pulled at the car.
It’s good to be back.
Awesome. So glad you posted it.
