A week or two ago I posted about an informal network of women in Nimba County, one of the counties most affected by the war. The network is called Concerned Women. Concerned Women members meet regularly to discuss issues that affect them, such as security and education. A woman with Concerned Women is starting up a kindergarten and is need of school supplies. Liberia Orphan Education Project (LOEP), a non-profit organization based in Virginia, will be donating 100 school packs which include composition books, pencils, crayons, and erasers. They will also be donating teacher packs, which include chalk, pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, flash cards, pens, composition books, construction paper, scissors, rulers, and instruction materials. Thank you LOEP!
LOEP has already gathered all of these materials, but is in need of funds to ship them to Monrovia. Once the materials are in Monrovia, I will personally arrange for their transport to Nimba. Shipping these goods to Monrovia will cost $250. When I first posted the request for school supplies, I thought the donations would be smaller, and that I could fit them in my suitcase. Because LOEP has been so generous, however, I cannot fit their donations in my suitcase. If you would be interested in helping to cover shipping costs, please send me an email: shelbygrossman@gmail.com. I will then give you the address of LOEP in Virginia where you can send the checks. Any amount would be appreciated!
I really think this is a good cause. Good will in Liberia often only reaches Monrovia. It is not often that women outside of Monrovia are the recipients of international aid. Again, any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
