Driving back into town we drove through a school gala day. It was kinda like a school parade. There was a group of girls dressed in traditional outfits. I was told that girls dress like this if they go into the Sande Society (the secret society for girls where they are taught how to behave, taught survival skills, circumcised, etc.) and halfway through their family or guardian can’t afford the fees. When this happens, the girl must leave the society temporarily until someone can afford to send her back. While she is out, she must dress in the way demonstrated above and below. (Someone correct me if I got parts of this wrong.)
